27 Books That Would Make a Great Gift This Christmas

Over the course of 2021, my Daily Signal colleagues and I had the opportunity to interview many talented authors with incredible stories. We’ve enjoyed featuring their books on “The Daily Signal Podcast.”

Now, with Christmas soon upon us, we’ve compiled some of our favorites for you to consider as gifts for family and friends. The list below is organized alphabetically by author’s last name and the descriptions are from each book’s publisher.

We’ve also included a link to our Daily Signal interview with the author in case you’d like to hear more.

Michael Eisenberg, “The Tree of Life and Prosperity: 21st Century Business Principles from the Book of Genesis

“Entrepreneurs, businessmen, and investors are constantly looking for principles and rules that will pave the way for success. Usually, those at the forefront are successful entrepreneurs from Silicon Valley or legendary Wall Street investors. But the principles of economic growth, wealth creation and preservation were written long before the rise of the modern market economy and its heroes.

“Michael Eisenberg—one of the most successful venture capitalists in Israel, and one of the first investors in Lemonade, and Wix—reveals in ‘The Tree of Life and Prosperity’ the eternal principles for successful business, economics, and negotiation hidden in the Torah—and shows their relevance to the modern world we live in.”

John Fund and Hans von Spakovsky, “Our Broken Elections: How the Left Changed the Way You Vote

“Behind the deeply contentious 2020 election stands a real story of a broken election process. Election fraud that alters election outcomes and dilutes legitimate votes occurs all too often, as is the bungling of election bureaucrats. Our election process is full of vulnerabilities that can be?and are?taken advantage of, raising questions about, and damaging public confidence in, the legitimacy of the outcome of elections.

“This book explores the reality of the fraud and bureaucratic errors and mistakes that should concern all Americans and offers recommendations and solutions to fix those problems.”

Mike Gonzalez, “BLM: The Making of a New Marxist Revolution

“The 12,000 or so demonstrations and 633 related riots that followed [George] Floyd’s death took organizational muscle. The movement’s grip on institutions from the classroom to the ballpark required ideological commitment. That muscle and commitment were provided by the various Black Lives Matter organizations.

“This book examines who the BLM leaders are, delving into their backgrounds and exposing their agendas?something the media has so far refused to do. These people are shown to be avowed Marxists who say they want to dismantle our way of life. Along with their fellow activists, they make savvy use of social media to spread their message and organize marches, sit-ins, statue tumblings, and riots.”

Sebastian Gorka, “The War for America’s Soul

“Gorka shows how America’s elite—in both parties—betrayed our heartland, sabotaged the American dream, and accepted national decline as inevitable. It took a candidate with remarkable vision, dauntless courage, and unbreakable determination to change the narrative. That man was Donald Trump. A candidate who owed no favors to special interests, Trump articulated a new American nationalism that has been an extraordinary force for economic and political renewal.

“Now, however, the Left is redoubling its efforts to defeat him. The leftists see him, rightly, as the great nemesis to their radical project.”

David Harsanyi, “Eurotrash: Why America Must Reject the Failed Ideas of a Dying Continent

“Europe has been declining under the weight of its antiquated institutions, economic fatigue, moral anemia and cultural surrender. Yet American politicians, technocrats, academics, and pundits argue, with increasing popularity, that Americans should look across the Atlantic for solutions to the nation’s problems, including on issues like health care, the welfare state, immigration, and a bloated bureaucracy.

“In ‘Eurotrash,’ David Harsanyi argues we are looking in the wrong place. By every economic and societal measure, the United States is more tolerant than Europe. It is more welcoming of immigrants, but also far more successful at assimilating them. Minorities do far better in United States. Our economy is dominant. Only one European company appears in the top 10 corporate powerhouses in the world and only seven in the top 50. Americans make up nearly half of the list.”

Victor Davis Hanson, “The Dying Citizen: How Progressive Elites, Tribalism, and Globalization Are Destroying the Idea of America

“Human history is full of the stories of peasants, subjects, and tribes. Yet the concept of the “citizen” is historically rare—and was among America’s most valued ideals for over two centuries. But without shock treatment, warns historian Victor Davis Hanson, American citizenship as we have known it may soon vanish.

“In ‘The Dying Citizen,’ Hanson outlines the historical forces that led to this crisis. The evisceration of the middle class over the last fifty years has made many Americans dependent on the federal government. Open borders have undermined the idea of allegiance to a particular place. Identity politics have eradicated our collective civic sense of self. And a top-heavy administrative state has endangered personal liberty, along with formal efforts to weaken the Constitution.”

Garland Hunt, “Crisis in America: A Christian Response

“Today’s America is faced with multiple challenges that are impossible for anyone to escape. I can’t breathe. Black Lives Matter. Not my president. George Floyd. Ahmaud Arbery. COVID-19. Breonna Taylor. Pandemic. Impeachment. Democrat. Republican. Socialism. These names and phrases spark controversy and a range of emotions including rage, hurt, sadness, and sometimes even hopelessness.

“How can 21st century followers of Christ react the same as nonbelievers? How can they recognize the areas in which God could be calling them into our country’s combative culture war? How should they respond to national crises the way Jesus would? What is the Church’s role in initiating and facilitating racial healing and reconciliation in the cities and towns across our great land? ‘Crisis in America: A Christian Response’ answers these questions and challenges Christians and nonbelievers alike to go against the natural tendency to be influenced by the culture and the headlines and develop a God-inspired view to the turmoil of today.”

Michael Knowles, “Speechless: Controlling Words, Controlling Minds

“The Culture War is over, and the culture lost. The Left’s assault on liberty, virtue, decency, the Republic of the Founders, and Western civilization has succeeded. You can no longer keep your social media account—or your job—and acknowledge truths such as: Washington, Jefferson, and Columbus were great men. Schools and libraries should not coach children in sexual deviance. Men don’t have uteruses.

“How did we get to this point? Michael Knowles of The Daily Wire exposes and diagnosis the losing strategy we have fallen for and shows how we can change course—and start winning.”

Charles Love, “Race Crazy: BLM, 1619, and the Progressive Racism Movement

“When did America become obsessed with racial differences? After decades of progress healing real-world prejudices and anger, we suddenly live in an America where we’re expected to view every single thing through the lens of race. …

“Meanwhile, organized BLM advances a radical and dangerous political agenda which, if enacted, would mean the end of the American experiment as we know it. The nation faces a pivotal moment: will we reject the Race Crazies, or let them destroy us?”

Kayleigh McEnany, “For Such a Time as This: My Faith Journey through the White House and Beyond

“Kayleigh McEnany describes her path to the White House podium, bringing the reader behind the scenes in the world’s most powerful building and illuminating how faith got her through.

“From White House intern to White House press secretary, from production assistant to national television host, from Catholic all-girls high school to Harvard Law School, God has guided [McEnany’s] path through uncharted territory. In ‘For Such a Time as This,’ [she] will chronicle [her] journey to the White House and offer never-before-told anecdotes about what really happened within the Trump administration.” (On sale Dec. 7.)

Marc Morano, “Green Fraud: Why the Green New Deal Is Even Worse Than You Think

“Climate change has already been ‘solved’ multiple times over the past two decades—with highly touted international agreements—and yet it never goes away as an excuse for leftist policies that will cripple our economy, impoverish the world, and take away our freedoms.

“Packed with telling statistics, damning quotations, and real science, Green Fraud is your source for all the facts you need to understand—and resist—the threat.”

Andy Ngo, “Unmasked: Inside Antifa’s Radical Plan to Destroy Democracy

“When Andy Ngo was attacked in the streets by Antifa in the summer of 2019, most people assumed it was an isolated incident. But those who’d been following Ngo’s reporting in outlets like the New York Post and Quillette knew that the attack was only the latest in a long line of crimes perpetrated by Antifa.

“In ‘Unmasked,’ Andy Ngo tells the story of this violent extremist movement from the very beginning. He includes interviews with former followers of the group, people who’ve been attacked by them, and incorporates stories from his own life. This book contains a trove of documents obtained by the author, published for the first time ever.”

Quillette, “Panics and Persecutions: 20 Quillette Tales of Excommunication in the Digital Age

“In an age when telling the wrong joke or using the wrong pronoun can cost you your career, magazine—founded in 2015 by Australian-based journalist Claire Lehmann—has provided a forum for thinkers of all political stripes to push back against the forces of intellectual conformity.

“‘Panics and Persecutions’ brings together a collection of especially compelling Quillette narratives, spanning subcultures from computer science to romance literature. These stories lay bare the human toll of modern ideological inquisitions, often in deeply personal terms-and demonstrate the urgency of Quillette’s editorial mission to create a space where free thought lives. Edited by Claire Lehmann, Colin Wright, Jamie Palmer, Jonathan Kay and Toby Young.”

Vivek Ramaswamy, “Woke, Inc.: Inside Corporate America’s Social Justice Scam

“Vivek Ramaswamy is a traitor to his class. He’s founded multibillion-dollar enterprises, led a biotech company as CEO, he became a hedge fund partner in his 20s, trained as a scientist at Harvard and a lawyer at Yale, and grew up the child of immigrants in a small town in Ohio. Now he takes us behind the scenes into corporate boardrooms and five-star conferences, into Ivy League classrooms and secretive nonprofits, to reveal the defining scam of our century.

“This book not only rips back the curtain on the new corporatist agenda, it offers a better way forward. America’s elites may want to sort us into demographic boxes, but we don’t have to stay there. Woke, Inc. begins as a critique of stakeholder capitalism and ends with an exploration of what it means to be an American in 2021—a journey that begins with cynicism and ends with hope.”

Samuel Rodriguez, “Persevere with Power: What Heaven Starts, Hell Cannot Stop

“Inspired by the faithfulness and courage of the great biblical prophets Elijah and Elisha, bestselling author Samuel Rodriguez explores the power of persevering with hope amid the dark times in which we live. If painful circumstances or losses have left you weary and discouraged, then grab hold of God’s promises and get ready to complete your assignment!

“No matter what you are experiencing, do not doubt for one second that God is at work in your life. Hell cannot stop the prophetic anointing that God has placed on you. Determine to persevere–and expect a harvest of outpouring from the limitless and living God!”

Joel C. Rosenberg, “Enemies and Allies: An Unforgettable Journey Inside the Fast-Moving & Immensely Turbulent Modern Middle East

“Do recent changes in the Middle East signal peace? One Arab country after another is signing historic, game-changing peace, trade, investment, and tourism deals with Israel. At the same time, Russia, Iran, and Turkey are forming a highly dangerous alliance that could threaten the Western powers. Meanwhile, the U.S. is drawing down its military forces in the Mideast and focusing on matters closer to home. Where’s it all heading?

“New York Times bestselling author Joel C. Rosenberg, based in Jerusalem, skillfully and clearly explains the sometimes-encouraging, sometimes-violent, yet rapidly shifting landscape in Israel and the Arab/Muslim world. Enemies and Allies will take readers behind closed doors in the Middle East and introduce them to the very kings and crown princes, presidents and prime ministers who are leading the change.”

Jon Seidl, “Finding Rest: A Survivor’s Guide to Navigating the Valleys of Anxiety, Faith, and Life”

“In the aftermath of the pandemic, even those who have never struggled with mental health have found themselves reeling, looking for answers they don’t know how to find. For Christians, especially those who’ve despaired of help from a church that has too often stigmatized poor mental health as a lack of faith, the way forward can be particularly difficult to see.

“Jonathon Seidl aims to fix that. Having fought his own way through crippling anxiety, life-altering OCD, and suicidal thoughts, he knows the value of concrete advice grounded in strong biblical truth. Instead of the trite or unsympathetic counsel that’s too often given, Finding Rest is practical, personal, and productive. Full of compelling stories, humor from a guide who’s still on his journey, and scriptural truths, this book offers real hope and help.”

Ben Shapiro, “The Authoritarian Moment: How the Left Weaponized America’s Institutions Against Dissent

“The authoritarian Left is aggressively insistent that everyone must conform to its values, demanding submission and conformity. The dogmatic Left is obsessed with putting people in categories and changing human nature. Everyone who opposes it must be destroyed.

“Ben Shapiro looks at everything from pop culture to the Frankfurt school, social media to the Founding Fathers, to explain the origins of our turn to tyranny, and why so many seem blind to it. More than a catalog of bad actors and intemperate acts,‘The Authoritarian Moment’ lays bare the intolerance and rigidity creeping into all American ideology—and prescribes the solution to ending the authoritarianism that threatens our future.”

Michael Shellenberger, “San Fransicko: Why Progressives Ruin Cities

“Michael Shellenberger has lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for 30 years. During that time, he advocated for the decriminalization of drugs, affordable housing, and alternatives to jail and prison. But as homeless encampments spread, and overdose deaths skyrocketed, Shellenberger decided to take a closer look at the problem.

“What he discovered shocked him. The problems had grown worse not despite but because of progressive policies. San Francisco and other West Coast cities—Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland—had gone beyond merely tolerating homelessness, drug dealing, and crime to actively enabling them.”

Lindsey Shepherd, “Diversity and Exclusion: Confronting the Campus Free Speech Crisis

“In 2017, 22-year old graduate student and teaching assistant Lindsay Shepherd was brought into a disciplinary meeting where two professors and a diversity office bureaucrat told her that ‘one or more people’ had complained about the Communication Studies class she led. She was never told how many people complained, nor what the alleged complainant(s) ever said. Lindsay was accused of creating a ‘toxic climate,’ ‘targeting trans folks,’ ‘spreading transphobia,’ and violating Wilfrid Laurier University’s sexual assault and gendered violence policy—all for playing a five-minute clip about pronouns in her classroom and leading a neutral, open conversation on the topic.

“The game changer? Lindsay secretly recorded the disciplinary meeting and released the audio to the media. In the ensuing year of graduate school, Lindsay staved off university censorship, clashed with the academic-activist cabal that was out to get her, and dealt with going from a nobody to going viral. This tell-all book reveals what it’s like to be the central figure of a national controversy.”

Erec Smith, “A Critique of Anti-Racism in Rhetoric and Composition: The Semblance of Empowerment

“‘A Critique of Anti-racism in Rhetoric and Composition: The Semblance of Empowerment’ critiques current antiracist ideology in rhetoric and composition, arguing that it inadvertently promotes a deficit-model of empowerment for both students and scholars.

“Erec Smith claims that empowerment theory—which promotes individual, communal, and strategic efficacy—is missing from most antiracist initiatives, which instead often abide by what Smith refers to as a ‘primacy of identity’: an over-reliance on identity, particularly a victimized identity, to establish ethos. Scholars of rhetoric, composition, communication, and critical race theory will find this book particularly useful.”

Stephen Soukup, “The Dictatorship of Woke Capital: How Political Correctness Captured Big Business

“For the better part of a century, the Left has been waging a slow, methodical battle for control of the institutions of Western civilization. During most of that time, “business”?and American Big Business, in particular?remained the last redoubt for those who believe in free people, free markets, and the criticality of private property. Over the past two decades, however, that has changed, and the Left has taken its long march to the last remaining non-Leftist institution. …

“This book provides a comprehensive overview of the problem and the players involved, both on the aggressive, hard-charging Left and in the nascent conservative resistance.”

Sean Spicer, “Radical Nation: Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’s Dangerous Plan for America

“Under Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, America is lurching toward economic collapse, runaway inflation, wide-open borders, an all-out assault on human life and religious liberty, a K-12 school indoctrination plan, ‘election reforms’ to ensure never-ending Democratic Party rule, and more.

“‘Radical Nation’ is a bold grassroots agenda for defending America against the Progressives’ Socialist agenda. Featuring powerful stories that will move you and keep you riveted, this book will channel conservatives’ discouragement, anger, and betrayal into meaningful action to keep America free, strong, and secure for our children and grandchildren.”

Ken Starr, “Religious Liberty in Crisis: Exercising Your Faith in an Age of Uncertainty

“In this book, Ken Starr explores the crises that threaten religious liberty in America. He also examines the ways well-meaning government action sometimes undermines the religious liberty of the people, and how the Supreme Court in the past has ultimately provided us protection from such forms of government overreach. He also explores the possibilities of future overreach by government officials.

“The reader will learn how each of us can resist the quarantining of our faith within the confines of the law, and why that resistance is important. Through gaining a deep understanding of the Constitutional importance of religious expression, Starr invites the reader to be a part of protecting those rights of religious freedom and taking a more active role in advancing the cause of liberty.”

James E. Ward Jr., “Zero Victim: Overcoming Injustice With a New Attitude

“As the nation watched the protests, riots, and civil unrest unfold during the summer of 2020, pastor James E. Ward Jr.’s seminal message, ‘Zero Victim,’ was heard from coast-to-coast on local airwaves to CNN. On national live television, he called for America to address a ‘spiritual and moral law’ crisis to heal and reconcile the country. He warned Americans to push away victimhood identities and develop a new attitude in Christ.

The ‘Zero Victim’ message is one that James has been preaching, teaching, and writing about for years. Today, his message takes on new meaning for a generation of Americans who are hurting and seeking real and lasting change in our culture. His words will set you free from fear, anxiety, depression, and discouragement. ‘Zero Victim: Overcoming Injustice Withwith a New Attitude’ is the answer our culture needs to better understand and deal with social justice issues.”

Ken Williams, “The Journey Out: How I Followed Jesus Away From Gay

“Many churches and individuals now affirm the gay Christian life and cheer-on LGBTQ Pride. But what if the LGBTQ life isn’t the party—for our neighbors, loved ones, or ourselves—that the world says it is? What if these valuable people are in pain? Pain that sex and Gay Pride won’t heal?

“After a life of hopelessness and a suicidal season over his confused sexual identity and unwanted same-sex desires, Ken discovered that Jesus offered real inner healing and intimate relationship. Since then, Ken has worked tirelessly to help others experience the same hope and transformation he found.”

Bob Woodson, “Red, White, and Black: Rescuing American History from Revisionists and Race Hustlers

“In the rush to redefine the place of black Americans in contemporary society, many radical activists and academics have mounted a campaign to destroy traditional American history and replace it with a politicized version that few would recognize. According to the new radical orthodoxy, the United States was founded as a racist nation—and everything that has happened throughout our history must be viewed through the lens of the systemic oppression of black people.

“Rejecting this false narrative, a collection of the most prominent and respected black scholars and thinkers has come together to correct the record and tell the true story of black Americans in all its complexity, diversity of experience, and poignancy.”
